FORD MONDEO 2.0
GHIA

|
Entering a new dimension
|
| The all-new, fully imported Ford Mondeo features striking
good looks with a classic appeal that will bridge generations. Both inside
and out, the Mondeo cuts a swathe through the mundane and outdated with
stylish, elegant and functional New Edge Design. It is undisputedly
Ford’s finest car to date. |

|
|
It can be regarded as classy, solid, confident and
chic, its modern and contemporary New Edge Design elements rendering it an
elegant, classic image. No more an ugly duckling, it has grown
significantly upmarket – in terms of solidity and quality of fit and
finish, right into BMW territory, in fact.
The new Mondeo is a bigger car than its predecessor
in all respects - a longer wheelbase (by 50 mm) and wider track ensures a
larger interior and luggage room (500 litres), while the suspension has
been completely redesigned. The front MacPherson struts feature a rigid
suspension subframe mounted with fluid-filled rubber mounts for enhanced
ride comfort. A stabiliser bar is mounted to the subframe with radially
stiff, torsionally soft bushes. It articulates at the suspension strut for
steering precision. The position of the transverse link’s ball joint and
the bushing at roughly the same longitudinal coordinate results in both
high lateral and longitudinal compliance. |
| Dual-path strut mounts, which separate spring and damper
forces to the vehicle body, rebound buffer springs that contribute to a
reducing of roll angle without compromising comfort. In addition,
dual-tube dampers - with degressive characteristics for ride refinement -
ensure that the Mondeo’s handling is smooth and surefooted, with more
safety ensured by a stability control system as standard. |

|
|
An independent Quadra-Link system - with strut-type
coil-spring/ damper units, two transverse and one trailing arm -
incorporates passive rear wheel steering for enhanced turn-in and
excellent cornering characteristics.
Together, the entire suspension ensures a complaint,
comfortable ride, yet is sporty enough to ensure competent and safe
handling under most conditions.
Motivation is by Ford’s 2.0-litre, 16-valve 107
kW/190 Nm Duratec HE engine (mated to a five-speed gearbox) which allows a
0 - 100 km/h sprint time of 9,8 seconds and a respectable top speed of 215
km/h. And to keep all that speed in check, the standard anti-lock braking
system (ABS) comes with electronic brake force distribution (EBD) as well
as an optional Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) system. The latter was
designed to help Mondeo drivers in "panic emergency stop"
situations and results in a shorter stopping distance – up to 21 metres
shorter from 200 km/h under test conditions – potentially reducing the
chances of an accident. |
|
Standard features include fully automatic climate
control (with a nifty system which can either keep drinks cool or warm,
depending on the system’s setting), multi-function steering wheel with
power assist, a height and reach adjustable steering wheel, electric
exterior mirrors, an anti-dazzle rear view mirror, |

|
|
leather upholstery, selective central locking,
electrically adjustable front seats, an innovative six-CD audio system,
integrated trip computer (displaying outside temperature, average speed,
fuel consumption and fuel tank range), and powered front and rear windows.
A collapsible pedal structure, actively deploying
front head restraints (to prevent whiplash injuries), three-point inertia
reel seatbelts in all seating positions and ISO-Fix child seat attachment
points are all in place to ensure the Mondeo is as safe as possible. On
top of that, a passive safety package called Intelligent Protection System
(IPS) features adaptive dual-stage front airbags, amongst others
There are thirteen exterior colours to choose from
and a choice of two for the interior – black or beige leather trim.
The standard mechanical warranty is three-years/100
000 km, while service intervals are every 20 000 km.
