Kia Pregio – breaking new ground |

The
Kia Pregio panel van breaks new ground in the South African light
commercial vehicle market by combining diesel power with a high level of
sophistication, which the company predicts will give it a major share of
the light delivery vehicle market sector.
The
2,7-litre J2 diesel engine is designed and built by Kia and has in a short
space of time gained an enviable reputation in Korea for reliable and
durable performance in commercial vehicles. Its peak power outputs are 62
kW and 175 Nm of torque (at 2400 rpm), enabling it to carry a full 1 000
kg load. The 5-speed manual transmission has a locking clutch mechanism
which provides for positive and light gear changing. Pregio

monocoque body is computer designed to ensure maximum rigidity and safety.
Lateral and horizontal steel bars reinforce the sides of the van and the
roof, providing extra protection for the load and occupants. According
to Kia, a premium has been placed on operator comfort for enhanced safety
and productivity. The cabin is very quiet, being isolated from noise and
vibration through the extensive use of chip foam, damping sheets and urethane
foam. Added to this is power steering, remote fuel cap release,
intermittent windscreen wipers, durable cloth upholstery, a headlamp
levelling switch, headrests and a fold down The
spacious load area is accessible through a wide opening rear tailgate and
a sliding side door. The load box is 755 mm long, 1615 mm wide and 1365 mm
high, allowing for a wide variety in the shapes and configurations of
loads that can be carried. The reinforced body and securely locking
tailgate and side sliding door also provide a high degree of security for
