Kia Pregio – breaking new ground

The Kia Pregio panel van breaks new ground in the South African light commercial vehicle market by combining diesel power with a high level of sophistication, which the company predicts will give it a major share of the light delivery vehicle market sector.

Kia’s Pregio breaks ground in more ways than one. Not only does it combine diesel power and economy with a high level of sophistication, it also sets new standards with a high level of operator comfort and safety.

The 2,7-litre J2 diesel engine is designed and built by Kia and has in a short space of time gained an enviable reputation in Korea for reliable and durable performance in commercial vehicles. Its peak power outputs are 62 kW and 175 Nm of torque (at 2400 rpm), enabling it to carry a full 1 000 kg load. The 5-speed manual transmission has a locking clutch mechanism which provides for positive and light gear changing.

Pregio drivers will experience a smooth ride and good road holding due to the combination of a coil spring/gas suspension with an energy absorbing monocoque body design and ventilated front disc brakes fitted with a tandem master cylinder. The consistently smooth ride under empty or fully laden conditions is ensured by the two-stage multi-leaf suspension fitted to the rear.

The monocoque body is computer designed to ensure maximum rigidity and safety. Lateral and horizontal steel bars reinforce the sides of the van and the roof, providing extra protection for the load and occupants.

According to Kia, a premium has been placed on operator comfort for enhanced safety and productivity. The cabin is very quiet, being isolated from noise and vibration through the extensive use of chip foam, damping sheets and urethane foam. Added to this is power steering, remote fuel cap release, intermittent windscreen wipers, durable cloth upholstery, a headlamp levelling switch, headrests and a fold down centre seat to provide ample table space for working or eating, hot and cool airflow with a fan and a load area light override switch, an ergonomically designed instrument panel that puts all controls within easy reach.

The spacious load area is accessible through a wide opening rear tailgate and a sliding side door. The load box is 755 mm long, 1615 mm wide and 1365 mm high, allowing for a wide variety in the shapes and configurations of loads that can be carried. The reinforced body and securely locking tailgate and side sliding door also provide a high degree of security for the cargo and the operator.

The Pregio is covered by Kia’s standard 3 year/ 100 000 km warranty.
